El templo luterano más importante de Letonia

Si bien la Iglesia de Lutero no es uno de los edificios históricos más conocidos, y se encuentra un poco alejado del casco histórico, se trata del templo evangélico luterano más importante del país. Se trata de una construcción de estilo neogótico con una sola nave en forma de cruz y una de las torres más altas de la ciudad.

La iglesia fue construida entre los años de 1988 y 1890, bajo la supervisión del arquitecto Johan Koha. Uno de los elementos más importantes del lugar es el antiguo órgano que se encuentra en el interior, y fue construido por la compañía alemana Ef Walker & Co. en el año 1893.


Con motivo del aniversario número 100 de la inauguración del edificio, se llevó a cabo en 1991 un ambicioso proyecto de restauración que se dedicó principalmente a reforzar la estructura original y reconstruir algunos de los elementos que fueron destruidos durante las dos Guerras Mundiales.
