Samagoan

It is raining when we wake up, I feel sorry for the women we watched working in the fields yesterday as now the harvest will be delayed. Plus three of our party seem to suffering from a virus infection. We set off walking beside the river and stop in Shyala for morning tea. I think this was possibly the best lemon honey ginger tea of trek. After leaving the village we cross the Numla Khola and arrive in a high plateau dotted with grazing yaks. Samagoan is a village of two halves, the lower part is where the Tibetan yak herders live in very basic accommodation and the upper part has the lodges for trekkers and climbers. Samagoan is the gateway to Manaslu. Just occasionally you have the feeling of being in a visitor to a poverty museum. In our globalized society no four year old child should die from diarrhea. Day 8 is a rest day and on waking I discover I have been a meal for bed bugs. However the sun is shining and the whole village is out loading yaks to take provisions to Manaslu base camp. To help with our acclimatization we spend the morning at the stunning lake at the foot of the Manaslu glacier. Taking selfies, building stone cairns and listening for the crack of falling ice. When we return to the lodge it is sunny enough for lunch on the roof. After lunch we explore the many gompas and mani walls in the village and watch a brave lady trying to keep the cantankerous yaks out of her cabbage field.

Día 7 y 8 Samagoan Está lloviendo cuando nos despertamos, siento pena por las mujeres que vimos trabajando ayer en los campos, ya que ahora la cosecha se retrasará. Además tres de nuestro grupo parecen sufrir una infección de virus. Salimos caminando junto al río y nos detenemos en Shyala para tomar el té de la mañana. Creo que este fue posiblemente el mejor té de jengibre con limón y miel de trek. Después de dejar el pueblo, cruzamos Numla Khola y llegamos a un altiplano salpicado de yaks. Samagoan es un pueblo de dos mitades, la parte inferior es donde los pastores de yacs tibetanos viven en alojamientos muy básicos y la parte superior tiene las cabañas para excursionistas y escaladores. Samagoan es la puerta de entrada a Manaslu. Solo ocasionalmente tienes la sensación de estar en un visitante de un museo de la pobreza. En nuestra sociedad globalizada, ningún niño de cuatro años debería morir de diarrea. El día 8 es un día de descanso y al despertar descubro que he sido una comida para las chinches. Sin embargo, el sol está brillando y todo el pueblo está cargando yaks para llevar provisiones al campamento base de Manaslu. Para ayudar con nuestra aclimatación, pasamos la mañana en el impresionante lago al pie del glaciar Manaslu. Tomando selfies, construyendo montículos de piedras y escuchando la grieta del hielo que cae. Cuando regresemos a la cabaña, está lo suficientemente soleado como para almorzar en el techo. Después del almuerzo, exploramos las muchas gompas y mani walls en el pueblo y vemos a una valiente dama tratando de mantener a los malvados yaks fuera de su campo de coles.
